I am at work on a monograph on modernism and architecture that offers rereadings of built spaces in novels and plays by E. M. Forster, Virginia Woolf, and T. S. Eliot, among others. I suggest that these texts depict buildings as resistant counternarratives to the propulsive impulse of modernity, creating room for unschematized individual expression. Room to think, to construct alternatives to dominant cultural narratives—the architectural principle interrupts the flat vector force of time.

I have worked on queer and feminist readings of the literary fin-de-siècle, particularly in works by English and French women writers. I have also written and presented on film noir.
